Summer joined the Ledgands household in July 2009 and ever since then she has kept us on our toes...as well as the other dogs on theirs.
Her first couple of enounters with our geese were a little frightening for her - she stood still as they can running over. Freddie (the Goose) grabbed hold of Summers' coat but did not hurt her...anyway that was enough of a trial for Summer to learn that the geese are not to be messed with! Now she just runs around them as if to say 'ner ner you can't peck me'.
Summers first few trips in our van made her a little poorly, but a holiday with us in Ireland soon got her use to travelling around. Before the week really started she was settling down whenever we set off to drive anywhere. Now she loves to travel. Whilst on holiday she showed no fear in going into the sea at Rossbeigh beach. The rolling waves and cold temperatures could not distract her from the temptation of playing with all the other doggies. She loved every minute! Of course she also loved to collect seaweed and any other interesting sea-drift rubbish she could get her mouth around!
Back at home she's picked up the name 'Minni The Minx' because she is into everything and does not leave the other doggies alone. Everytime Nemo and Summer go out into the garden, it is not long afterwards before you find her hanging from his neck and then rolling around on the grass. She has a rope toy that is about 4 times longer than she is, but that does not stop Summer dragging it all over the field - usually with Nemo or China in toe.
What is really interesting is that Summer definitely must see Reebok, our Labrador as the grand-daddy. She wants to play with him but somehow knows she has to be more careful and like the other Pointers, runs to him for protection when necessary.
Summer has been to Ring Craft classes a couple of times to get her used to other doggies, people, noise and more. She was rather nervous the first time, but on her second visit was full of confidence and even was even found to be having a great time playing with the other puppies...or should that be dragging one across the floor like it was a rag doll? ! Yikes!
Night time doesn't frighten Summer. When it is time for her last toilet before bed, she is the first out of the door and runs up into the field...probably hoping to catch sight of a rabbit or other night beast! But she is usually first back as she has not been backward in coming forward and realises that there is a biscuit to be had to go to bed with! Crafty mare!
Anyway, we'll keep you up to speed on Summer's antics. We'll also develop a photo album for her and once we have enough photos, there will be a link to it from this page.
Summer - she has definitely arrived. We only wish our summer weather-wise would do the same! |
